AB 498 Vetoed by Lombardo

Well, bad news good news situation. AB 498 was vetoed today, but that means that July 1, 2024, you will all receive an additional 7% salary increase. This is in addition to the 4% that is already coming next year. So salary will go higher, but take home pay will not increase as much as it could have. Still overall a 34% raise for the contract.

I prefer the 7%. 7% more pay, more OT, larger retirement. Anyone that doesn’t understand this should do some research. Not to mention there is still a chance it will be passed next session

I heard the bill could be passed still by going around the governor. Is this true?

If they were still in session, there might be a possibility for a 2/3’s vote. The session is over, so I don’t think this can occur til the next session in 2 years.

Only getting because of him is a bit generous. There were a lot of people involved in pushing legislation and negotiating the contract. He can’t sign a bill that isn’t passed. I agree that it’s a bit rash to knock him over one veto. We will see what happens next session with him at the helm.

Stop with the complaining. How about a thank you for your FOP bargaining team who bargained for everything we received in this session. "THIS IS HISTORICAL!!"

We worked hard for this, and this is just the beginning. Remember, "PERS is a forced savings account where you can take it all with you if you leave the NDOC"!!

How about more thank you's and just wait for what we can accomplish next session!

Thank you,

According to the Legislative Chart, the next Legislature will have the option to override his veto if they can get enough votes.
