Hello. Is there any truth to the rumor going around that the Senior Correctional Officer position is going to be removed and all officers will be the same pay grade?
So, is this Lead officer spot going to be like an exempt post where you need to put in for it and be selected or will it be just a position on the bid list that anyone can bid for?
The chance that i would have to get a off the ground post is now gone because some of the seniors that will keep there pay but go to tower or CP will now take that. I know some wont but i know a lot that will. Plus with COT's at a pay grade 34 once they move to CO that is over a 20% in pay in 6 months and the state does not like to give more then 15% in one year. so i believe COT's would have to be bumped also. I just don't think its a good idea, plus i don't think the state is will go for it for how much it will cost if they are complaining about the 4hr overtime for 12 hour shifts.
another COLA raise (11% over two years) or just another step increase across the board would be better for all and keep the senior spots and put the senior back to seniority of promotion date and hire date.
Also when you go for senior and get promoted you under stand that only spots you can BID to is units or just senior spots it prepares you for promoting to Sergeant.
One thing you are overlooking is that the lead officer spots will now likely be special pay posts. The seniors who still want to maintain that position will likely put in for those spots which will also entitle them to an extra 5%. COTs would likely start at pay grade 35, or they would receive a 20% bump like you said. The 15% in a year you are talking about does not apply now as cots get 15% at 6 months and another 5% at 1 year. The CBA is the ruling authority, whatever we negotiate will govern.
I would love to take credit for this, but this was the state doing the right thing. I can say that we did pitch this idea during the last CBA negotiations for officers.
Yes, that is not a rumor. The head of DHRM told me that after the class/comp study, the recommendation is to compress many of the positions with the state, including c/o and sc/o. This would also mean everyone will be moved up to grade 37.

Well our s c/o get c/o spots and put them self were they want to be posted..
I think it’s a great idea. I will definitely vote for it’s a positive!!
Yes, this was proposed by DHRM, based on a study they had done. It covers a lot of state jobs. Not just NDOC. It’s only a recommendation at this time.
Great News FOP brothers!! Once again thanks to our President Paul!!!!
