I was told by a supervisor that if we have any saved comp time by July 1st, that we are going to get those hours payed out instead of getting the chance to use them. They explained that the state doesn't want us to use our comp hours after the July raises come into effect because they would be paid at an increased hourly rate, rather than at the salary we accrued them under. They said that's what happened to their comp hours the last time the department got a raise like this.
Is this legit?
I have 100+ hours of comp time in my bank and I'd hate to lose my vacation time like this, especially after I was denied leave because there's nothing open on the calendar right now.
The state does have the option to pay you out every July for comp time. Usually if you show you have already scheduled to use it, they will leave it alone. With these raises I could see them doing that.
